MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT: AP/ORD-RP/ORD R&D Commonality Coordination Meeting
The subject meeting was held in the ORD Conference Room
on 21 September 1966 to discuss possible areas of common R&D
interest between AP/ORD and RP/ORD The meeting was called
and chaired by Those in attendance were:
David L. Christ C/AP/ORD
Frank A. Briglia, AP/ORD
Arthur E. Boland. RP/ORD
Of particular interest were the various requirements for the
subsystems of Project AQUILINE.
Communications.
AQUILINE requirements were discussed, and it was pointed
out that the program for development consisted of three phases.
1. I.O.C. test range commo. provided by off-
the-shelf hardware and not intended to provide an
operational capability.
2. Short range
opment program.
3. Long range
development program.
system study and devel-
) system study and
RP/ORD discussed the applicability of their O.T.H. radar
as a possible commo link for this system. It was determined
that additional discussion in this area would be fruitful and

a meeting was set for Friday, 23 September 1966. In this meet-
ing, AP/ORD will specifically define AQUILINE commo require-
ments; RP/ORD will respond with details of the O.T.H. radar in
an attempt to establish a match.
On Board Data Processing.
Although RP/ORD has a capability in this area, it was
agreed that the AQUILINE requirements are so peculiar to its
mission as to not allow a practical separation of the data
processing from the on board information gathering, prepara-
tion and transmit link.
Navigation.
The possibility of using O.T.H. radar in the navigation
mode was discussed with general agreement as to its practi-
cability. Mr. Arthur Boland was invited to sit in on the
23 September meeting to represent RP/ORD on continued discus-
sions in this area.
Advanced Platforms.
AP/ORD and RP/ORD have slightly different missions in the
area of advanced platform research. However, some duplication
of effort was detected in the common interest in the Coanda
Effect as a means of generating lift. It was agreed that RP/ORD
would pursue the general studies in this area, with AP/ORD
limiting itself to the application of the Coanda Effect to the
AQUILINE vehicle.
TV-Eye.
A brief discussion on the TV-Eye proceeded only to the
determination that more contact between AP/ORD and 0/ORD was
needed in order to assure optimum use of funds and personnel
on the problem. A meeting between the parties will be set for
the near future.
