2. On 9 October, source saw several Soviet soldiers wearing black service color,
four trucks and some horse-drawn vehicles on the Neuwirth lumber yard just
north of the unction of the Rabca River and the Little Danube River. Source
253(l C saw saving the lumber yard which had been occupied by a
small Soviet unit since the end of the war. From 30 to 40 soldiers were
stationed there in early October. (2)
3. A Soviet ATO office staffed by four officers was permanently located at the
Gyoer railroad station. The officers wore civilian clothes almost exclusive-
ly-and only forwarded Soviet military trains. No Soviet troop trains passed
through Qyoer between 24 September and 10 October, but the Soviet leave
train running between Vienna and Budapest went through Gyoer daily. On
7 October, about 70 Soviet soldiers with bags and cardboard containers arrived

l.. Residents of Gyoerszabadhegy said that the Soviet troops from the Artillery
Barracks were also away from the post. (4) Local residents also said that
the former poorhouse in the western sector of the town, north of the trunk
line to Hegyeshalom (P 48/Y 06), had been vacated and reestablished as a
Soviet hospital with about 200 beds.
5. The Rakoczy Barracks, formerly Frigyes Barracks, was guarded by Hungarian
sentries with green service color until 10 October. Local residents said
that the Hungarian troops from the installation were away from the post. A
few soldiers but no vehicles or weapons were seen in the billeting area. (`.>)

Barracks were parked there, but only one truck stood on the lot in early
October. The section of the parking lot along the railroad line, just east
of the crossing point for pedestrians, contained 8 new garages, each
measuring about 45 x 15 meters with numerous doors on the two long sides;
1 guard house, and 1 workshop. About 30 boats, each about 8 meters long,
were lying in the southern section of the parking lot which was-fenced in
by barbed-wire.
The barracks installation on the west side of Kabok Lajos Street, formerly
Teleki Street, was occupied by a Hungarian border guard unit. (6) A
construction worker said that a new building was constructed for military
purposes east of the city and of the -airfield on the sout'bank of the
Little Danube River. The reconditioned five-story building of the former
revenue office housed an AVH school since the summer of 1951. The trainees
there, who had come from all parts of the coantry, wore blue service color.
