During the period 1963-1968, numerous research and develop-
ment programs were undertaken in support of the Agency's interest
and requirements. The diversity of programs reflected the multi-
discipline character of biological sciences as well as the "common
use" application of the researth and development product. The follow-
ing program briefs represent the major programs and achievements
of the R&D effort during the 1963-1968 era.

Division. The feasibility for remote guidance of
'animals in the free environment was demonstrated in 1965 using a
as the subject and an
tas the guidance cue. This
achievement prompted a more intensive investigation of other animal
species. In the period 1966 to 1968, 'guidance system was
developed using
\techniques. In late 1968, the Iprogram
was advanced to the operational and engineering development phase.
One of the more notable achievements of the animal studies was the
demonstration in 1968 that the homing behavior of 'could be

controlled and maintained in an

all animal guidance programs was the successful training of behavior
