The Montoneros responsible for the attack were members
of the Special Infantry Troops (TI), trained in Libya and
Angola, formerly led by Horacio Mendizabal. Another element
of the Montoneros, named the Special Activist Troops (TA)
and formerly led by Armando Daniel Croatto, are responsible
for political action and propaganda in Argentina. Both
Montonero leaders were reportedly killed during a battle
with Argentine forces on 19 September.
