Much of the criticism of the President is probably little more than routine carp- ing. Some, however, reflects a fun- damental difference with his approach to governing, especially his failure to take a much tougher line on a broad front of national problems. The hard-liners' basic criticism is that Videla has not moved strongly enough against the politicians and labor leaders they blame for bringing Argentina to economic and political chaos. In effect, they are calling for a political system in which most, if not all, civilians would be denied a substantial voice in government. The hard-liners do not predominate in any one of the services, but some occupy key positions and could complicate life for the President. Some indeed are already causing problems. The vigilante-style tac- tics being employed against known and suspected leftists are widely thought to be the work of impatient security and police officers unhappy with Videla's gradualist approach. Some high officials probably sympathize with the tRctics. 3.5(c) NR President Videla NR -SEeREt Paw:, R WFFKLY SUMMARY Jun 25, 76 Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 NR Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 NR Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 NR Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 NR Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 NR Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 NR Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 NR Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 NR Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 NR Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 Approved for Release: 2018/09/17 CO2987081 NR
