2. In addition, in 1971
Timerman sold "La Opinion" to pro-government indi-
viduals after being beaten and threatened. His name,
however, remained on the masthead as owner and director
of the newspaper. He reportedly travelled to Europe and
Israel during the latter part of 1971. In March 1972 he
returned to writing occasional articles for "La Opinion",
but reportedly had taken a softer line toward the govern-
ment. In December 1.974 Timerman was in contact with
Jose BODES Gomez, the Prensa Latina representative in
Buenos Aires.
3. Jacobo Timerman was released from custody the
evening of 25 September 1979, stripped of his Argentine
citizenship, and deported to Israel the same evening.
