REFERENCES
1. The Rumanii Army Chemical Center and its subordinate units are housed
in the barracks located in the west side outskirts of the city of Fagaras.
The commander of the center is Major General Damian, an old-time officer
who once was a member of the Royal Army.
2. The following units are under.the command of the Chemical Training Center:
Regular Array Chemical Officers' School
Reserve Chemical Officers' School
Chemical Noncommissioned Officers' School
Courses of specialized training.
3. Chemical Noncommissioned Officers' School. Locations The school is located,
together with the other schools, in the barracks of the city of Pagaras.
The students are selected from among privates undergoing their regular
military training. The students may be recruited from any branch of the
armed forces including the units of the Ministry of the Interior.
4. The courses last six months. The training program is similar to that of
the Reserve Chemical Officers' school with the difference that courses are
reduced and simplified. After finishing school, the students are sent to
the military units where they organize and conduct the chemical platoons
of those unite. During the school year 1952-1953, approximately 300
chemical noncommissioned Officers attended the school,
Courses of Specialized Training. A course of specialized training is part
of the curriculum of the Chemical Training Center. The course is attended
by all ranks of officers from each branch of the arnr and reserve officers
of all ranks from all branches of service including those trained in.civil
defense.

The specialized courses last two months. They are attended by the officers
divided into two series. Each series is composed of 60 to 60 officers.
The courses deal with general theoretical information and emphasize the
preparedness against a chemical attack, as well as the practical measures
to be taken in such circumstances. The coursesalso teach how to build
shelters and how to train civilians in civil defense.
Three or four times a year the chiefs of civil defense of large cities
and industrial centers visit the Chemical Center. At these periodic
meetings the matters discussed pertain to the betterment of the.civil
defense system.
