On order of the Soviet Control CoTrmiission (SKK) the construction work at Nauen
is to be discontinued immediately. The new 15O-Kw Berlin transmitter was to
be set up in the looted premises of the big German broadcasting station
formerly there. For this purpose materials had already been conveyed and work
started.
2. On orders of the SKK the work on the Berlin transmitter had to be hastened.
Karlshorst ordered through the Central Committee of the SED that the transmittal
power be raised from 100 to 300 Kw. In the Cabinet Council it was decided that
this transmitter should be treated as secret. The transmitter went by the code
name "Zwilling".
3. At the expenditure of 12 million DM the new 300 Kw. Berlin Cominform transmitter
is being built in K}penick. The transmitter is to work exclusively for "Peace"
and to broadcast programs following the Cominform line. The Office for Information
and the Central Committee of the SED place special weight on the completion of
the transmitter ahead of schedule so that it can go into operation this year.
4. The old Berlin transmitter will. continue to broadcast its present program; on the
other hand the new 300 Kw transmitter is to take over the functions of the
Cominform transmitter which was originally planned, which was delivered from the
USSR. The Cominfo j, could not be delivered in 4ime.
Furthermore, the D eing produced by the RFT Kopenick
is turning out to reliably. A Soviet wave length not
yet announced will be assigned to the new 300 Kw transmitter. For the purpose
of keeping secret all details, such as location, wave length, etc., special
security measured have been taken by the SSD.
5. Work is proceeding at high pressure in three shifts so that the buildings for
the transmission apparatus will also be ready. For this purpose the FDGB has
engaged masonstfrom the Russian zone to go to K8penick.
6. Furthermore a 250 Watt/UI01 transmitter on the Brocken will soon begin broadcasting
to West Germany on Frequency 93.5 MHz. This transmitter too beams only so-called
peace programs. More powerful transmitters cannot at present be produced by the
IbENTIAIL. sa zt~
