(FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 On 19 April 1953, five hundred cadets from the Military and Political University of Hunan left Hengshan (N 27-16, E 112-48) Hsien by train for Chennankuan (N 21-58, E 106-41) en route to Indochina, where they were to be integrated into the 'army of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV). 2. During March and early April political commissars had tried without success to persuade the cadets to volunteer for the assignment. After pressure had been applied and the cadets censured, they enrolled for the transfer. The cadets had been told at Hengsha,n Hsien that they would not necessarily serve in combat units.-- 1a omment.
