'(r"aver'kilometer marker No. 103) will be started.in aipring 1953. The survey
25X1 of the site is now being completed. A labor force of approximately 5,000 will
be employed qn the project, including approximately 3,000 Rumanian and Hungarian
25X1 workers. The erection of huts has already started. The concrete part of the
new quay in the Decin river port has been completed and at present the work of
levelling the surrounding area is being carried out. The new quay is
25X1 approximately six meters above the present water level and over 1,000 meters
long.
2. When completed, this dam should enable shipping to move on the stretch from
Prague to Decin and on the upper Elbe the whole year round, except when the
river freezes. A large power station is also planned at the dam.
3. On the East, German side a new dam is to be built at Pirna (N51/F38).
4. On the upper Elbe, between Kolin and Melnik, the building of new locks at Pnov
(051/)39;kiver kilometer mair]er No. 78) began in awtumn 1952. Dredging of the
river at various places on this. stretch has continued throughout the year.
