It is located at Strada Doamnei, 110. 22, Bucharest, ^nd employs about 900 persons. It is responsible for providi{ag what is known as Stas (specifications) for all kinds of manufactured products. Normally a Stas contains the following details; a. Year of establishment. b. General description. c. Dimensions. d. Composition of product and its components. e. Results of tests (resistance, at cetera). f. Mode of employment. g. Packing. h. Serial number. (Every Star product bears an indication 'tai No. any trade mark it may bear). 2e In theory each new Star is worked out by the Ministry responsible for the item in question. In practice many of the Stas are merely copier, of USSR specifications. The various Stas.- ar6 checked and approved by approp- riate technical sections: a. A mechanical and electrical section. b. A chemical section, responsible for all kinds of petroleum products. c. A building and paper section. d. Secret Stas handled by the military section are registered by CSS but do "not pass through their control". No details of specifications handled by this section are retained by CSS. e. A Metrological Center, consisting of "ten special buildings" which also "house the School for Metrology, laboratories,, and -workshops". A Russian exert, Efirnov, is assisting in setting up this Center. Source states that "models" of thermometers, syringes, micrometers, slide rules, et cetera, have been made at the Center. 3.
