The situation in Jordan TOSIMIXIS tense as of noon today. The following
details are available:
Earlier in the day, Baghdad Radio had announced that regular Iraqi
troops had moved into positions alongside radar:en units.
Lt. Gonoral Ammash. the Iraqi Vice President, arrived in Jordan
today, flying into ktafraq, a major military base used by Iraqi
forces. Meanwhile. a Lebanese newspaper has reported that Iran
has been reinforcing its military fore.. along the Iraqi border.
Z. Following an emergency meeting of the Cabinst, Jordan today
rejected an Iraqi demand that King Hussein ardor the Army to stop
Bring against the redayeen. The Jordanian rejoction insisted that
the firing was initiated by the Fedayeen and the Government counter-
fire had stopped before the Iraqi not* was received. Reports were
circulating in Amman and Beirut that King Hussein is considering
declaring martial law and has asked for the resignation of the Govern
mast and intends is replace it with a military regime.
