SUBJECT: Checklist of Follow-up Actions from
Shahs s Visit
Eelaw is the checklist of the actions you discussed With the Shah and
what. is being done to follow up. I shall keep track of then.
1. F-14 and F-l5, '1=he Shah Wandered haw many squadrons of
each he should buy and wanted to consummate the. agxeernents soon.
Secretary Schlesinger promised to do a force analysis for him, and
I have asked Phil Odeen to follow the Pentagon exercise and L-o give you
his indepexxdent analysis. The Pentagon has an official letter of
interest from the Shah, and Schlesinger is 'considering whethex there
is anything more the Shah can d.o until he is ready to place a specitac
order.
3. Zahedi-Ismail. You promised to give Zahedi Language describing
our position on the Egyptian-Israeli situation fox his personal use in
briefing Ismail on the Shah's talks here. Zahedi will return to Washington
August 8. Sixxce I will be on leave, I am giving General Scawcroft a
memo on setting up the appointment. Attached is a paper that you cot~~~

separate action .memo on this. Essentially, the C-.13,0 is a matter
of funding. The: retxafit is a technical issue; there nnay be a less
expensive w~.y to da this in Jordan.
b. Dey~lopinF; Glaser cooperation with Saudi_Piri.nces.. Z have
already sent'you separately a rn.emo recommending an. invitation to
;have Prince Fahd here instead of sending a political mission to
Saudi Arabia. One purpose would be to try to straighten out the
US-Saudi relationship. The other, discussed with the Shah, is to
enGOUrage the Saudis to do more fox North Yemen, Orman axed Jordan.
