MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT

SUBJECT: Cambodian Base Area Operations
The US/ARVN force advancing into the Fishhook met
scattered enemy resistance during the early hours of
the operation. Preliminary reports indicate as many as
123 enemy KIA, with at least 73 the result of air strikes.
As of 12:00 midnight (EDT) on April 30, friendly casualties
were one ARVN KIA and seven WIA (four U.S.). COSVN Head-
quarters ceased communications with its subordinates at
1:30 p.m. (EDT) on April 30; in the past, such a procedure
has been associated with relocations by the headquarters.
In the Parrot's Beak, ARVN units continue to move westward
along Route 1 (map attached). Results include:
,- Cumulative enemy losses in the Parrot's Beak
Operation are 455 KIA. ARVN casualties include 56
KIA and 326 WIA. There have been two U.S. WIA.
,- 186 individual and 32 crew-served weapons captured.
67 tons of rice captured and 350 bunkers destroyed.
The commanding ARVN General has directed one task
force to link up with Cambodian forces at Svay Rieng
City who are reportedly being encircled by enemy forces.
