The President recognizes considerations influencing Thieu`s
recommendation on proposed meeting between President and
Thieu. We are now suggesting meeting be held on June 8 at
Midway Is land.
If Thieu agrees, plan joint announcement here and in Saigon
on Monday, May 19.
Please discuss this course of action with
Thieu and advise soonest so that necessary administrative arrange-
meats can be made. President most anxious that there be
proposed
absolutely no repeat no press speculation on/meeting umt?? before
joint announcement made.
