Chinese today handed me this:
IF
"With regard to the protection of President Nixon's
Aircraft as mentioned in the U.S. message of February 15, 1972,
the Chinese side will assume responsibility for the security
of the Presidential Aircraft within the territorial air of the
Peoples Republic of China. The Chinese side wishes to take this
opportunity to bring to the attention of the U.S. side the fact
that the present width of the territorial sea of the Peoples
Republic of China is twelve nautical- miles, not twelve miles."
