(NASA TECHiUCAL TRANSLATION F-45. Transla- tion from Iskusstveniiyy Sputnik Zemll, no. 3, 1959, p. 32-3B (USSR)) An analytical theory is presented for artificial earth satellites, on the asgumption that the oblateness of the planet Is small enough so that the perturbation function in powers ol:the oblateness can be limited to the term containing only the first powers of the oblateness of ,the earib. This portion of the perturba- tion function is expap ded in powers of the eccentricity. Integration of the ordinary Lagrange equations yields analytical impressions of the first-order perturba- tions relativelto the oblateness of all of the elements of the orbit.. aecurat(- to the fourth degree of the eccentricity inclusive. Transla- tion from Iskusstvennyy Sputnik Zemh, no. 3, 1959, P. 39-47 (USSR)) Presentation of a general form of the first-order pej - turbations in the elements of an elliptic satellite orbit, caused by the resistimee of the air, is undertaken. It was assumed that the earth's atmosphere has a fully spherical density distribution and that the attraction of the earth can be replaced by the attraction of the material point, placed at its center of inertia and having the same mass as the earth. These assump- tions, along with the secular perturbations, are used to obtain fastOr perturbations whose periods do not exceed the pin-lod of one rotation of the satellite. 1. Batrakov, Yu. V. H.
