None of the outstation sites were identified nor was any activity identified which could be associated with the electronic net in the areas, searched. The five areas and the results of the, photographic search are as follows. Belush'ya Guba (71-34N 52-19E)on Novaya Zemlya. Possible locations for an outstation are (1) the area surrounding the port of Belush'ya Guba and extending southward 3 nm to an airfield and (2) a possible military area at 70-50N 53-44 E, approximately 55 nm south-southeast of Belush'ya Guba along a narrow inlet. However, haze, obliquity, and small scale preclude a detailed photo interpretation of these two areas. The photo coverage is from Stanislav (48-56N 24-43E). Although considerable activity was observed 25X1 in the area, none could be identified as related to the electric net. The photo coverage is from Sukhumi (43-OON 41-02E). Activity observed could not be identified as associated with the electronic net. Recent collateral reveals the completion of a' microwave station at Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk which~a-~ reported linked with the air defense district and zonal communications center at Sovetskaya Gavan' on the mainland (see Aerospace Intelligence Digest, Volume 14, No 11, November 1961, SECRET). Since military communications routes are reportedly used in the Soviet ESV program, the ESV-associated electronic -net could be linked with this new micro- wave station. Turkestan Military District.
