SIGNIFICANCE: EVIDENCE OF A CONTINUED SOUTH AFRICAN PRESENCE IN SOUTHERN ANGOLA IS EVIDENT AT MUPA, EMBUNDO, NGIVA, AND CHANGONGO. MIRAGE F.1 REMAIN AT ONDANGWA AIRFIELD. (SWN) ESTABLISHED AT MUPA COMPLEX THIS BASE IS IN THE NORTHERNMOST AREA OF SOUTH AFRICAN-CONTROLLED ANGOLA IN CUNENE PROVINCE. THE FACILITY CONSISTS OF A CLEARING WITH TWO POL BLADDERS AND A BIVOUAC WITH AT LEAST SIX SMALL TENTS. THE CLEARING WILL PROBABLY BE USED AS A HELICOPTER LANDING ZONE. ONE BUFFEL LIGHT ARMORED VEHICLE (LAV) AND ONE TRUCK ARE IN THE AREA. (SWN) AN INCREASE IN MILITARY ACTIVITY AND THE USE OF CAMOUFLAGE IS OBSERVED AT THE OPERATIONS SUPPORT BASE NEAR EMBUNDO AIRFIELD TWENTY-FOUR NET-COVERED OBJECTS HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE COMPOUND AND THE REVETTED PROBABLE AMMUNITION STORAGE BUNKER HAS BEEN NET/CANVAS-COVERED. AT LEAST TWO BUFFEL LAV AND NINE TRUCKS ARE IN THE AREA. THIS SUPPORT BASE IS THE EASTERNMOST DEPLOYMENT OF SOUTH AFRICAN FORCES PRESENTLY IDENTIFIED IN CUNENE PROVINCE. (SWN) A PROBABLE RESUPPLY CONVOY CONSISTING OF FIVE BUFFEL LAV AND 13 TRUCKS APPEARS TO BE FORMING NEXT TO NGIVA AIRFIELD (NOT ON GRAPHIC).
