1. (SWN) SIGNIFICANCE: SOVIET-PRODUCED COMMAND AND CONTROL
EQUIPMENT HAS ARRIVED AT THIS PORT SINCE AND
REPRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT UPGRADE IN CAPABILITIES TO SUPPORT
COMPLEX RADIO COMMUNICATIONS IN ANGOLA.
2. (SWN) REMARKS: FOUR R-409 CATS PAW RADIO RELAY VANS, TEN
R-401/405 RADIO SETS (EIGHT ON GAZ-66 CHASSIS), TWO PROBABLE
RADIO VANS, AND NINE ELECTRONICS-ASSOCIATED VEHICLES ARE ON THE
EAST END OF THE QUAY. THE EQUIPMENT PROBABLY ARRIVED ONBOARD
AN IVAN SKURIDIN-CLASS ROLL-ON/ROLL-OFF (RO/RO) MERSHIP WHICH
IS MOORED WITH THE BOW DOOR OPEN AT THE NORTHEAST EDGE OF THE
PORT FACILITIES.
