TITLE/SIGNIFICANCE:
Possible Sigint Role for the R-400/404 Mast Truck
An unidentified mast truck, probably based on the R-400/404 mast truck,
has been observed in a seperately fenced area at Minsk AB with an ECM
Battalion. The mast is mounted on a Zil-131 chassis and, unlike the
R-400/404 mast which is flush with the front of the chassis, it extends
one meter beyond the front of the chassis. This extension appears to
consist of a box-like structure with a triangular brace on top and is
wider than the normal R-400/404 mast. Parked adjacent to the mast
vehicle was a Zil-157 FULL HOUSE radio intercept/direction finder receiver
vehicle (not in the right photo below). Although it is the first time these
two vehicles have been reported together, this unidentified mast truck has
been previously observed here
POLE HORN jammer/interceptor system. The specific functional association
between the mast truck and either the FULL HOUSE or POLE HORN systems is
undetermined at this time. It is speculated that the mast truck is not
functioning in the traditional microwave radio-relay role, but as a Sigint
associated vehicle with a new function.
