On imagery of 26 chassis were confirmed as Type 59. (S/WN) PROBABLE SERIES PRODUCTION OF NEW ARMORED RECOVERY VEHICLE AT HARBIN, CHINA (S) 2. Development of the new ARV has been underway at the lant since at least 1. A new armored recovery vehicle (ARV) is probably in series production at Harbin Tank Production and Rebuild Plant 674 China. Two externally complete models of the new ARV were seen for the first time on imagery of Figure 1). The new ARV probably consists of a Type 59 tank chassis with a large boom crane mounted on the right front of the vehicle. The only other distinguishing feature is a cupola mounted on top. (S/WN) Imagery Analyst's Comments 3. The new ARV will be a much-needed addition to the Chinese armored support capabil- ity. In conjunction with the older Type 59 ARV, which serves as a workshop vehicle, the new ARV will enable repair teams to carry out heavy maintenance under battlefield conditions.
