NAMIBIA-ANGOLA BORDER.
2. (S/D) REMARKS: A NEW BIVOUAC HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED SINCE
017-03-50E. IT CONSISTS OF 24 ADMINISTRATIVE AND 114 SQUAD
TENTS ARRANGED IN THREE PROBABLE BATTALION-SIZED AREAS. AT
LEAST 12 VEHICLES ARE ALSO PRESENT.
(S/D) OPERET MILITARY CAMP SERVES AS A STAGING BASE AND AS A
TRANSIT CAMP FOR SOUTH AFRICAN UNITS RETURNING FROM DUTY ON THE
ANGOLAN BORDER. INCREASES IN ACTIVITY ARE OFTEN NOTED HERE
PRIOR TO SOUTH AFRICAN RAIDS INTO ANGOLA. OPERET IS IN
NORTHERN NAMIBIA APPROXIMATELY 65 NM SOUTH OF THE ANGOLA BORDER.
