TITLE/SIGNIFICANCE:
MODERNIZED T-62 TANKS
COMMENT:
Ground photography from Afghanistan shows five changes to the exterior of the
standard Soviet T-62. These are standoff sideskirts, deckedge fencing, addi-
tional glacis armor, add-on armor on the turret, and a laser rangefinder. A
model was prepared to show how these changes affect the shape of the modern-
ized T-62 and its shadows. Given the number of exterior changes, there may
well be other upgrades in the electronics, suspension, and engine systems.
