SIGNIFICANCE: ONE SPANISH-BUILT DLSCUBIERTA-CLASS FRIGATE (FF) HAS BEEN DELIVERED TO THE EGYPTIAN NAVY (SWN) 2. REMARKS: THE FRIGATE IS BERTHED AT THE CENTRAL MOLE WHICH IS OFTEN USED FOR CEREMONIAL PURPOSES. THE SHIP IS PROBABLY ARMED WITH ONE EIGHT-CELL SEA SPARROW SANS MISSILE LAUNCHER, ONE 76NINi DUAL PURPOSE GUN, AND TWO 40MM ANTIAIRCRAFT GUNS. THE HARPOON ANTISHIP CRUISE MISSILE SYSTEM MAY BE FITTED IN THE FUTURE. (SWN) OPEN SOURCES INDICATE THAI THIS SHIP IS THE FIRST OF TWO DESCUBIERTA-CLASS FRIGATES TO BE DELIVERED TO EGYPT FROM SPAIN THIS YEAR. THIS DELIVERY REPRESENTS THE LARGEST MISSILE-EQUIPPED COMBATANT IN THE EGYPTIAN NAVAL INVENTORY.
