2. REMARKS: FOUR POSSIBLE FRANGIBLE COVERS FOR THE CSS-NX-3 SLBM
MISSILE TUBES, EACH IN DIAMETER, ARE ON THE MISSILE 25X1
BAY WALKING DECK OF THE XIA NUCLEAR-POWERED BALLISTIC MISSILE
SUBMARINE. FRANGIBLE COVERS ARE USED TO KEEP WATER OUT OF THE
LAUNCH TUBES AFTER PRESSURE EQUALIZATION AND OPENING OF THE
DOOR PRIOR TO SUBMERGED LAUNCH. (SWN)
A STRUCTURAL TEST VEHICLE (STV),I IIS NEXT TO 25X1
THE PROBABLE BALLAST CANS ON THE QUAY. THE STV, PREVIOUSLY
IDENTIFIED AS A BALLAST CAN, IS SIMILAR TO THE ONE SEEN AT
JINXI NAVAL WEAPONS R&D/TRAINING COMPLEX THE 25X1
STV SIMULATES THE SIZE, WEIGHT, AND INTERNAL CONFIGURATION OF
THE CSS-NX-3 SLBM, AND IS PROBABLY USED TO TRAIN MISSILE
TECHNICIANS AND MISSILE HANDLING CREWS. (SWN)
