FOR. SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY With regard to my previous memorandum today on GAMBIT Mission 4023, additional irdormation now avail- able indicates that a malfunction in a control gas valve is the probable cause of the high control gas usage. More precise identification of the cause will require detailed analysis of the telemetry data received at the tracking stations. Data from Vandenberg station are now available; data from Guam will be couriered to the mainland on an emergency basin. The back-up stabilization system has been tested frequently and has proved to be reliable for recovery when the primary stabilization system was inoperative.
