PREFACE
i-his summary report contains additional information
on ~nuw~~ and ~change~~ targets and order of battle infor-
mation on all targets lited in the Index (\II~ for this
Ill 1 d d 10I7.
ICellls are arranged in sections.
the ~~~~~~'~ suction provides a description of targets
nc~~~ly identified or kno~~~n but reported for the first time
by N P IC.
the "Change~~ section provides a description of pre-
viously reported installations sho~~~ing a major change,
or those where an analysis of currant photography furnishes
more precise information.
The 'Order of Battle" section provided information on
targets ~+~here order of battle can be identified.
~4hen there ere no "New' or "Change' targets, or
order of battle information, the appropriate section id
omitted.
"New~~ and "change" targets are arrangudl~bycountry,
2~ ~rithin the country according to subject, 3) within the
subject by ~'~~AC area, and -l~ within the ~1 AG area by geo-
graphic coordinates in ascending order. Order of battle
information is arranged 1~ by subject, 2~ within the subject
according to country, 3) ~~'ithin the country by ~ AC area,
and ~) within the ~'~AG area b~~ geographic coordinates
in ascending order.
~hhe map base used (~~~hen available and applicable) for
the derivation of coordinates is the latest edition of the
LS Air Target Chart, Series 200, or A~~1S Series L~Oa
1:20,000 (China); or ONC; or :1~IS Series 1301, I~~1~1
(Tibet, ~'~~estern China).
The header line for each target contains, reading from
left to right, the target name, the geographic coordinates,
the ~1~orld Aeronautical Chart number, the }3ombing Fn-
c}'clopedia (i3L~ number, and the NPIC target number.
The COy1Ukt target number, ~~~hen a~-ailable, appears
above the photo reference data.
Photo reference data includes frame numbers and sym-
bols denoting limiting conditions, photo interpretability,
target coverage, and the mode.
Symbols for limiting conditions affecting photography
are C (Clear), SG (Scattered Cloud Cover, IIC (Heavy
Cloud Govern, H (Ifaze~, CS (Cloud Shado~~~), S (Sno~~~j,
O (Obliquity), SU (Semi.darkness~, GC (Ground Cover),
CI~ (Camouflage), and GR (Ground 1Zesolution).
Interpretability of the photography is categorised as G
(Goodj, F (Fair), or P (Poorj. Target coverage is denoted
by the symbols h (lotal) or P~h (Partial). The mode of
coverage is indicated by S~h (Stereo), NS (Non-Stereoj,
or PS (Partial Stereo).
~yhen appropriate, an index follows "new" and''change'~
targets and another follows order of battle information,
with targets in each index arranged alphabetically ~~?ithin
a country.
AAA defenses are divided into three categories: light
(LPC-1, Z.PC-2, ZPC--f, 37 mm), medium (~7 mm, 8~
mm), and heavy (100 mm and larger). The term HMGAA
(heavy machine gun antiaircraft) indicates a ~~~eapon smaller
than a ZPC-1. ~'~~here a category cannot be determined,
the site will be listed as an A.~A site and the number of
guns indicated (example: 6-gun A~~.A site, occupied]
unoccupied).
