Miller, has invited you to address the student body in honor of the Bicentennial of the Constitution at a mutually convenient date during the school year in Winchester, Virginia. Since you already have a heavily committed schedule for this year, and this is not a national event commemorating the Bicentennial, I recommend that you decline this invitation. If you agree, attached is a letter for your signature. Box 910 Winchester, Virginia 22601 Dear Dr. Miller: Thank you for your kind invitation to speak to the student body of John Handley High School as part of your program commemorating the Bicentennial of the Constitution on a convenient date during the year. However, due to my many official duties and a full travel schedule, I am unable to accept the honor. Thank you for thinking of me, and please extend my regards to your student body and faculty members. I certainly commend you for creating this program which will help to make your students aware of their heritage. Sincerely yours, William H. BOX 910 OFFICE OF HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL Judge William Webster Director Central Intelligence Agency Washington, DC 20505 Dear Judge Webster: August 3, 1987 At John Handley High School we are very excited about the upcoming Constitutional Celebration, and we are planning a number of special programs for our students. In September, Professor Dick Howard from the University of Virginia will help us kick off our year of celebration with an address to our student body. Throughout the year we hope to have several other national leaders visit our school to discuss the Constitution. We would be delighted and honored if you could visit with our students sometime during the school year to share your thoughts about how the Constitution has influenced our nation. We hope that this will be a year that our students and faculty will always remember, and that the seeds of intellectual discourse that we sow will help create future citizens and leaders who will possess a much greater understanding and appreciation of the "Great American Experiment." Your participation in this process could have an enormous impact on our students and make it a truly memorable event for them. We hope your schedule will permit a brief visit with us. We are located in the City of Winchester, Virginia, which is approximately 70 miles north west of Washington, D.C., at the head of the Shenandoah Valley. Interstate 1-66 from Washington, D.C. intersects 1-81 just south of Winchester, so it is an easy trip out from Washington. Please let me know if a visit will be possible and the approximate honorarium you will require. We will look forward to hearing from you. Dr. Benjamin S. Miller, Principal I Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/11/07: CIA-RDP90GO0152R001202390019-3
