That Mr. Casey's visit to Portugal in July 1986 was somehow related to the covert procurement and "shipments... of tons of weapons labled for delivery to Guatemala and Honduras. That Fernandez had "approval of higher-ups in the CIA, including Clair George." (sourced to Fernandez' statements before the Tower Commission) That in June 1985 COS Tegu "helped to settle a dispute between contra factions over the distribution of private arms shipments arranged by North," which resulted in the delivery of "two planeloads of ammunition... to the faction that had complained about being shortchanged." That CIA "threatened to manipulate air drops of supplies to the Contras in order to force out Pastora." (ADCI's interpretation of press report.) camps three or four times weekly between April and June from...Aguacate"; and that "CIA conveyed fal DC-6 to the That "CIA operatives used unmarked helicopters to deliver explosives and other supplies to contra units inside Nicaragua" during 1986; that the "helicopters delivered supplies to contra contras" in 1986. The crewman also said that helicopters with links to the CIA regularly left and arrived at Aguacate....Ian Crawford...said the CIA officer known as Mick once gave him permission to ride aboard a helicopter to the Nicaraguan-Honduras border. Crawford said that this helicopter was delivering plastic explosives to a contra position near the border.... Another crewman said...on one occasion...he flew fuel to the border at the request of a CIA officer. The fuel was for helicopters operating near the border. The firm, headed by Edward T. deGaray employed many of the crewmen, including Hasenfus. (Philadelphia Inquirer, 8 Mar 87) That the CIA's Latin American division chief...took a secret trip to South Africa in early 1985 to solicit aid for the contras....SAFAIR, a South African air transport company... opened a US office several months after the 1985 trip and signed a lease with Southern Air Transport Inc., a former CIA-operated firm....Casey also made a secret visit in March 1986 to South Africa to strike a deal for South African assistance to the contras....(Philadelphia Inquirer, 26 Feb 87) Last week Congress found new cause for concern in reports that the CIA is providing the "contras" with detailed information on targets inside Nicaragua, including maps and blueprints of bridges, dams and other facilities build by US agencies in the 1960s and 1970s. A US intelligence source confirmed that former Rhodesian pilots were used before and after military aid was cut off in 1984 [by the FDN was implied]. When US aid was cut off, some of these pilots were apparently paid through...Col North. The source said as many as a half-dozen of the pilots have been under contract to the [CIA] since military aid officially was resumed last October.
