In the past, the design of radio receivers has 50X1 largely ignored the problem of elimina ing impulse noise interference of the type caused by domestic and industrial equipment and automobile ignition systems. This is an undesirable weakness in equipment which is frequently required to operate in urban centers and other high noise areas. 2. It is believed that the addition of a simple series noise limiter circuit to the audio systems of all future receiver designs can be accomplished without appreciable increase in size and weight. It is also recommended that a noise limiter be incorporated in the RR-11AA, BB receivers now being developed if this is at all feasible. 3. It is pointed out that the commonly used second detector noise limiter is useless on CW; therefore only audio types should be considered.
