The position of the navigator provides an excellent vision
and terrain orientation which are a great contribution to
flight safety. A Hp-up seat with safety belts is provided for
the stewardess in the galley-pantry. There are two additional
seats for the crew: a tip-up seat behind the navigator for a
piloting navigator on international routes and a tip-up
seat near the front door for the second stewardess or a re-
serve member of the crew. The crew enters the aircraft
via the front door which is used also as a loading door of
the front baggage compartment and as a service door
of the galley. The volume of the front compartment is 6 cu.m.
It is intended main!), for the baggage of the passengers.

deux pilotes, un navigateur et une hotesse. Tout comme sur le
Tou-104, c'est le navigateur qui est place le plus en avant dans
le nez vitre de la cabine. Deux pilotes sont places derriere
lui, l'un a ate de l'autre. Le siege rabattable de l'h6tesse
de l'air muni d'une ceinture de securite est installe dans
l'office. II y a encore des sieges rabattables pour les membres
de l'equipe supplementaire, notamment un siege rabaffable
place derriere le navigateur, pour le navigateur-pilote qu'on
prend pour des vols sur des lignes internationales et un siege
dispose pres de la parte d'entree avant pour la deuxieme
hotesse de Voir ou pour un membre supplementaire de
l'equipe. L'equipe utilise la pone d'entree avant qui serf
egalement a charger les produits d'alimentation dans l'office
et les bagages dans la soute avant. Cette derniere. de 6 ma de
capacite, est destinee en premier lieu au transport des ba-
gages des passagers. Elle peut etre verrouillee par une grille
metallique 6 coulisse.

with a separate entrance through the aft main door and vestibule. The
2.9-m internal diameter of the fuselage makes room for comfortable four-
abreast seating in a row with ample aisle width and headroom. The arrange-
ment,of passenger chairs in the saloons depends upon the number of the chairs.
The aircraft b produced in two models: a 44-seat version (Tu-124) and a
56-seat version (Tu-124V).

floor in the passenger cabin is covered with soft
nylon carpets, the walls and the ceiling are dressed with up-to-
date synthetic materials. Two rows of dome lights above the aisle
make the ceiling-, look higher. Golden frames of folding capron
net racks for carry-on baggage and hats form a beautiful
longitudinal ornament under the ceiling to emphasize the
simplicity and austerity of the wall and bulkhead decor.
At the same time arched bulkheads, enclosing the middle saloon,
with newspaper and magazine show-cases on these bulkheads,
destroy any "tube" effect and add to an impression of variety
and harmony in the cabin's interior.

Ground conditions are automatically
maintained in the Tu-124's pressure cabin up to
an aitutide of 5000 m. With a further increase
in flight altitudes the cabin pressure decreases
and . at an altitude of 11,000-12,000 m the
equivalent cabin "altitude" is 2400-2600 m;
in this case the partial pressure amounts to
0.5-0.57 kg/sq.cm.
The cabin is ventilated and heated by air tapped
from the engine compressors. The heated air
from the compressors is mixed with the cabin
air in three underfloor injectors and the resultant
warm air enters the cabin through footlevel
inlets. The ventilation air passes through an air
cooling turbine and air-to-air heat exchanger,
where its temperature is reduced down to
8-10 deg., and enters the cabin through a
ventilation duct in the ceiling. The right pro-
portion of the heated and unheated air is con-
trolled automatically to maintain a constant
temperature in the cabin. The used air is expelled
into the atmosphere through automatic pressure
relief valves in the front and rear parts of the
pressure cabin. The whole of the cabin air is
changed about twenty times per hour.
There is a special ventilation system which
supplies the cabin with outside air to maintain
normal temperature conditions when flying at
a low altitude or in taxying. Provision is made
also for heating or cooling the cabtn air prior
to embarkation of passengers. For this purpose
the heating and ventilation systems have
connections for a ground air conditioning
truck.

Le chauffage et la ventilation de la cabine sont
effedues a l'air enleve aux compresseurs des
reacteurs. Cet air chaud est brasse dans les trois
injecteurs du systeme de chauffage disposes sous
le plancher de la cabine. L'air tiede arrive aux
pieds des passagers par des orifices au niveau
du plancher. L'air du circuit de ventilation
traverse on turborefrigerateur et on radiateur
a air et arrive dans la cabine 6 travers one
rampe de plafond en etat refroidi a 8 ou 10? C.
La proportion de Nair arrivant par les deux
circuits est automatiquement reglee de facon a
maintenir dans la cabine one temperature
constante. L'air use s'echappe de la cabins dans
l'atmosphere par des clapeb a reglage auto-
matique de la pression places dans les parties
avant et arrikre de la cabine pressurisee. L'air
dans Ia cabine est Ginsi change environ 20 tots
par heure.
A part cola l'avion est Equipe d'un systeme
special de ventilation de la cabine par l'air
exterieur, destine a maintenir la temperature
normal. pendant to vol a foible altitude et pen-
dant to roulage au sot. On a egalement prevu to
possibilite de chauffer et de refroldir Pair dans to
cabine avant l'embarquement des passagers.
A cello fin les circuits de chauffage et de venti-
lation sont munis de raccords destines a brancher
on conditionneur d'aerodrome.

igh-speed and convenient refuelling,
reliable operation of the engine fuel system
in flight and simplicity of its ground main-
tenance?these are the necessary conditions
for an economical and failure-free operation
of the aircraft. The fuel system of the Tu-124
airliner meets all these requirements.
All fuel is held in 16 wing fuel tanks of a
total capacity of 10,350 kg. The fuel tanks are
flexible rubber type, except for the outer
wing tank, which is of the integral type for
the maximum utilization of the volume of the
outer wing space, sealed specially for this
purpose.
A characteristic feature of the fuel system is
the simplicity of its construction, the length of
fuel pipes and number of units and fittings
being kept to a minimum. Provision is made
for continuous fuel supply to the engines even
with the fuel pump electric motors being
de-energized. In the latter case the fuel pumps
are driven by emergency ram air turbines
extended from the wing by means of a pneu-
matic device.
The system is designed for a centralized two-
point pressure fuelling. Filling of different
tanks with a pre-set amount of fuel is con-
trolled by the mechanicfrom the flight deck,
who uses a special console with signalling-
devices. It takes only 8 minutes to completely
refuel the aircraft by means of a ground
refueller.
Le ravitaillement rapide et commode,
la securit?du sysleme d'alimentation des
reacteurs pendant le vol et son entretien
facile sur l'aerodrome, ce sont la les condi-
tions indispensables d'une exploitation eco-
nomique et sans pannes de l'avion. Le sys-
teme d'alimentation du Tou-124 repond a
toutes ces exigences.
Le combustible est contenu dans 16 reservoirs
d'une capacite totale de 10.350 kg, loges.dans
Nile de l'avion. Les reservoirs sont en caout-
chouc a l'exception de ceux loges dans la
partie amovible de l'aile dans loquelle la
construction meme, specialement etanche
a cette fin, sert de reservoir et cela pour
mieux utiliser le volume disponible.
Le circuit d'alimentation se distingue par so
simplicite: la longueur des tuyauteries et le
nombre d'appareils et de la robinetterie y
sont reduits au strict minimum. L'alimenta-
tion ininterrompue des reacteurs en combus-
tible est assuree meme dans le cas d'une
panne des moteurs des pompes d'alimenta-
tion. Dans ce cas un dispositif pneumatiqUe
fait sortir de l'aile des pompes a helices
actionnees par le flux d'air externe.
Le systeme d'alimentation est adapte pour le
ravitaillement centralise en deux points
simultanement. Le remplissage de diverses
capacites d'une quantite prescrite du com-
bustible est commande dans ce cas par le
mecanicien qui se trouve dans le poste de
pilotage et utilise a cette fin un tableau special
signalisateur. Le plein complet de l'avion
est fait par un camion ravitailleur en 8 mi-
nutes.
