The Deputy Chief, Media Unit. followed Walcott's presentation with a discussion of what CIA's role with the media should be. Background briefings were arranged for Lindsey Gruson, NEW YORK TIMES, on Central America and Cord Meyer on Hungary. 25X1 25X1 25X1 Executive Appearances and Invitations The DCI spoke to an audience of 500 lawyers and judges representing the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia and the U:S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit at the 1988 Judicial Conference~in Williamsburg, The Chairman of the conference, Judge Ruth Ginsberg, commented that the Director "conveyed great integrity and that the feeling in general was that the speech was truly inspirational." She added that the DCI's appearance was the , highlight of the conference. DCI also presented The SASA William 0. Baker award to Dr. Edwin H.~Land at the SASA Annual Awards Testimonial Dinner on 25 May. Dr. Baker received the award for Dr. Land who could not attend. The DDCI addressed approximately 500 members of the Austin Council on Foreign Affairs and Friends of the LBJ Library. The attendees represent leaders of the business and university communities interested in foreign affairs.
