11. Fifty percent of the personnel of Eastern Europe Branch are
attending a series of 15 two-hour lectures on Eastern Europe, sponsored
by OTR. The series will continue until 23 May.
OPERATIONS
1. The 64th and 65th meetings of the Subcommittee on Exploitation
of Foreign Language Publications were held 3 and 17 February, res-
pectively. The Annual Report of the Subcommittee was approved and
submitted to the Advisory Committee on Foreign Language Publications.
A review of the Scientific and Technical Program was initiated to be
continued at the next meeting on 2 March.
2. Reference to the CTS Index prevented 78 duplications totaling
407 pages. This represents a saving of approximately $20,000.
3. On 24 February, Chief, FDD, attended a meeting at the Pentagon
with representatives of ACSI, AGO, and BR/OCR to discuss certain
problems concerning restitution of captured German documents.
4. epresented FDD at a Reports Conference
held 6 and 9 February to explore problems in and arrive at recommendations
relative to possible standardization of CIA reporting methods.
5. The Academy of Sciences USSR textbook "Political Economy" was
published during the month as FDD Translation No. 484.
6. The Division was alerted to be on guard against possible
hoaxes which may have been perpetrated in foreign-language source
material because of security leaks concerning intelligence methods and
special techniques. A study was to be prepared by the Division for
submittal to a CIA committee on this subject.
