SUBJECT: Full-Time Academic Training
1. Last Fall, the DCI asked the Agency to move toward a goal
of tripling the number of Agency Officers sponsored for full-time
academic training. (We now sponsor about 30 officers per year.
This number has been more or less constant over the past decade.)
The purpose was twofold. To help our people reach their fullest
potential and, hence, their ability to contribute to the Agency's
work. And to fill gaps in expertise that we are experiencing or
will experience in the future.
2. Recently, you responded to an Agency-wide notice about the
opportunities for sponsored, full-time education. We sent a letter
to your component chiefs to notify them of your interest, and to
encourage them to do what they can to strengthen CIA's future by
increasing our investment in our people in this way. I and OTE
stand ready to offer any assistance we can.
3. Attached for your information is a briefing sheet which an
employee receives before leaving for his/her approved full-time
training. We hope it will aid in answering most of your questions.
