1. On 23 Mar 55, following the Taiwan College flag raising ceremony, Dr Eng
TX Tsing, president of the College made a speech. The speech was a brief-
ing on the current hostilities and the firm policy of the Chinese government
to hold Kinmen and Matsu. He stated that the "ceasefire negotiation" can
never relax the tension in the Far East; therefore, Nationalist China will
defend Kinmen and Matsu with or without outside help.
2. The speech stimulated the whole college to united action. Shortly after
the meeting, a cable was addressed to President Chiang Kai-shek, voicing
solid support behind the government's pronounced determination to fight
for the defense of the offshore islands. The cable stressed that the
Mobilization Engineering Corpsof the College will be immediately available
to the government whenever their services are needed.
3. A mobilization engineering corp has been organized by the junior and senior
students. This engineering corp consists of six working units, each of
which represent one of the six engineering departments of the college.

l+. The staff of professors cabled a separate message to the compatriots of the
whole nation, saying that it is the solemn duty of every citizen of Nationalist
China to support the government in its professed determination to defend
Kinmen and Matsu and to contribute all they have for their country.
