1, The oil field at Velasquez which is owned by the Texas Petroleum 25X1X6
Company of Colombia, a subsidiary of the Texas Company of New York,
was producing 18 thousand barrels a day during April 1955. There
is a 12-inch pipeline now under construction from this field,
When this pipeline is completed, increased production will be
considerable. There is a possibility that this increase will
reach 30 thousand barrels a day. The oil averages 21 gravity with
an asphalt base. The rainy season. slowed pipeline construction;
in fact, extra heavy rains completely shut off construction temporar-
ily. Plans call for completion this year, and this will be
accomplished unless unforeseen difficulties arise.
2. There is a US engineer working in the Velasquez field now /June 19557
where he is deviating wells under lakes and swamps. The main field
is 20 kilometers from the Magdalena River and is connected with all-
weather roads. The roads present a constant problem of maintenance,
however, because. of the torrential rains. With constant maintenance
and by keeping them well oiled, they are capable of carrying heavy
equipment. The roads are very crooked; they have no bridges, and
drainage is taken care of by high filled pipe culverts.
