(Suamary) The protocol On the exchange of goods agreement between
Afghanistan and the Soviet Union vat signed the afternoon of Feb. 4
at the royal Af40an Ministry of Commerce. Afghan Minister of Commerce
Gola Mohammed Shirzad signed the document on behalf of Afghanistan
and Kuzmin, deputy minister of foreign trade, signed for the
Soviet Union.
After signing the protocol, Kuzmin expressed his satisfaction at the
signing of this agreement. He added that the agreement was signed in an
atmosphere of cordiality. Thia is another step for bringing the two
neighborly countries closer together. Under the agreement Afghanistan
will send wool, cotton, sheepskins, (grapefruit?), linseed, and dried
fruit to the Soviet Union, which vi11 send. to Afghanistan farming machinery;

(Excepts) With the annoUncement of the final results in the mid-term
elections in Kerale laLe on the night of Feb. 4, the United front
of the Congress', ?PSP, and Moslem League ended up uith a final tally of
94 in the 127 member Kerala state assembly,, The final party position
will thus be: triple alliance 94--Congress 63, PSP 20, and Moslem
League ll,' Communist 26 and Communist-sponsored independents 3, ESP,
Karnataka Osamiti, 1,-and,unattached independent one., The .assembly
also includes an Anglo-Indian to be nominated by the governor to
represent the community.
The three parties Consfituting,the alliance had polled over 4,337,000
votes,' about 53' perbent-of the tota18.19.million, while the communists,
together uith the independents sponsored-by them pold,3.55 million votes,
working out to. 43 percent of the. total pooled.
