The Honorable Robert M. Gates
Deputy Director, Central Intelligence
Washington, D. C. 20505
Dear Bob:
We were delighted to learn of your willingness to
address the attendees at the Spring'88 Symposium on the
theme "TECHNOLOGY SHORTFALLS IN INTELLIGENCE ARCHITECTURES".
I believe John McMahon, who passed the happy news to us,
mentioned to you the topic which we would like very much
for you to address "The Intelligence Environment of the
'90's".
Your presentation will open the program and is now
scheduled for 0905 hrs.-0935 hrs., Saturday morning
16 April 1988, in the "bubble" at the headquarters. The
entire program is intended to focus attention on technol-
ogy shortfalls which need research and development atten-
tion from here on if U. S. Intelligence is to be capable of
performing its mission effectively in the mid '90's and
beyond.
The program (0900-1700 hrs. Saturday and 0900-1230
hours Sunday) will be presented at the TS/SI/TK classi-
fication level. Ev Hineman is our point of contact at
the agency.
As soon as we have finalized all speakers, which we
expect to do shortly, I will forward a sanitized copy of
the program. And of course you know that you are warmly
welcomed tO attendany and all Of the sessions. We are
Maj. Gen. JohnE.Kulpa,USAF(Ret.)
EatonGnrp. planning a reception in the cafeteria late Saturday after-
Pnnk].Lewis noon 1700-1930 hrs. If you could stop by even for a
H'r"`~?`P~ brief visit, we would be honored.
