The original report in addition to the information on'research institutes contains information on the political situation in Pciland, on the execution of the 1954 plan, on developments in the electric, paper, building and machice industry, and on transportation facilities. A 2, The Russians seem to attach great importance to work done by the Polish research Institutes, and Soviet interference in this area is far greater than in the universities and other scientific organizations. 3. Atomic research in Poland is concentrated in two institutes working in close connection with the Russians: 4* a. Panstwowy Instytut Telekomunikacyjny (State Institute'of1,11001MmunfoatiOns) in Warsaw, which conducts research on obtaining cadmium .and boron from local raw materials. Special machinery for electronic calculations has been cor.1+,moted at the institute under the guidance of Professor Turski any, Lukasiewicz, a graduate student. The Institute of Sulphuric Acid of the Uniyersity of Warsaw, directed by Professor Akerman, is directly attached to the State Institute of Communication and is officially listed as dealing with new methods of prbduction of fertilizers. b. Institut Elektroniki (Electronic Institute) in Warsaw which is direoted by Professor Groszkowski? assisted by Professor Wesolowski. Instytut Ekonomiki i Organizacji Przemyslu (Institute of Economics and Industrial Organization) in Warsaw is directed by Ilya Epstein and is connected with the Ministry of National Defense and also the State Economic Planning Commission through Nieczyslaw Ieszp one of the vice-directors of the commission. The Institute of Economy and Industrial Organization deals with all questions concerning the labor output and the improvement of methods of control of the workers l productivity. A special section of the Pracawnia Technicznego Normawania Pracy (Workshops of Technical Norms of Labor) is attached to the Institute and is directed by Suchareks, a security officer.
