There is available in the CIA Library a photocopy of a three-page untranslated
list of 47 Partito Comunista IItaliano (PCI; Italian Communist Party) activists
who were sent to Sicily for pre-electoral agitation and propaganda. The list
includes the date and place_of birth and present residence of each activist.
2. PCT Deputy Aldo Natoli spent a considerable, amount of time in Sicily during
the electoral campaign. More than 40 women were reported as working there
and others were to go. Four women from the Rome PCT Federation were to be
sent, three of whom are Sicilians and one of whom is Calabrian. The women
from Rome were: Elisa Tanzarella, Margherita Ingarciola, Anna Guida,
and Fiacchi (fnu).1 The PCI Directorate paid for their trip by boat from
Naples to Sicily. Their living expenses in Palermo were covered by the
Regional PCT Committee, which was also responsible for paying for their
return trip. Maria Luisa Rodano Cinciari, member of the Rome PCI Federation
Directing Committee, vent to Sicily for about ten days prior to the elections.
3. Although the Party went to a great deal of expense and never before had sent
so many activists to any area, the Sicilian Regional Committee continued to
request more help from the PCT: Directorate in Rome because of the extraordinary
campaign activity carried on by the Christian Democratic Party and by the
parties of the Right.
