CIA created the Soviet Realities Institute in March 1986 to educate agency officers on Communist activities worldwide and the workings of the Soviet system. The Institute's curriculum includes the following: -- "Communism in the Contemporary }Vorld," covering such topics as the principles of Marxism, party organization, front activities, relations among Communist parties, and the appeal of Communism in the Third World. -- "Perspectives on the Soviet Union," consisting of seminars conducted by leading American scholars aimed at providing an integrated view of the Soviet system. -- Segments on the Soviet system focusing separately on such subjects as the Soviet economy, military programs, foreign policy, domestic politics, science and technology, and the intelligence services. 2. CIA also provides training in Marxist-Leninist ideology in our Career Trainee Program.
