An intelligence briefing was given on the internal political situation in Pakistan, India/Pakistian relations and the status of the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan. There was considerable discussion of the stability of the Pakistan regime. I indicated that there were some differences among analysts regarding the likelihood that the military, would postpone the election. provided some background on 25X1 how the military might be able to frustrate the election or if necessary live with Mrs. Bhutto as Prime Minister. There was some discussion about military assistance and Soviet cross-border activities. CIA was tasked to provide a memorandum on Soviet cross-border activities with as much detail as possible.
