MEMORANDUM FOR THEMIRECT4*4-
1. This memorandum is for information only.
2. You have an appointment to see at 3 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday,
20 August 1959, the son of Rodney Crowther of the BALTIMORE SUN who is I
understand to invite you to address an undergraduate group at a North Carolina
college.
3. Rodney Crowther's father covers the White House for the BALTIMORE SUN.
He is an expert on economic and military affairs for the SUN's morning and
'evening papers. He was awarded .a citation for distinguished service in the
field of journalism at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland in 1956.
The citation is the highest honor a college alumni assodiation can bestow upon
Its members. Rodney Crowther was graduated from Washington College in 1918.
He became a reporter on the ASHEVILLE (N.C.) CITIZEN in 1925. He joined the
BALTIMORE EVENING SUN in 1929. When I first met him I was an assistant to G-2,
Third Corps, St. Paul Place, Baltimore, Maryland. He was transferred to the
MORNING SUN in 1944. He has twice served as Chief of the SUN's London Bureau.
He has been with the Washington Bureau since 1955.
4. Our last contact with Crowther was in August 1956 when he secured for
me from the morgue of the SUN a picture of Mi.. Bruce so that our Security people
could prepare a badge for Mr. Bruce without having to photograph him. A copy of
my letter of 22 August 1956 thanking Mir. Crowther is attached.
