OFFICE OF THE CHIEF (Chief, Deputy Chief, Executive Officer) - 5 people
on duty*
SUPPORT BRANCH - 5 people on duty - Responsible for the normal administrative
functions including personnel, budget, travel, training and supply. Also
responsible for all infoi-mation control functions including document handling and
routing, registry, film storage and reference service, and IAS reading room.
PRODUCTION BRANCH - 8 people on duty - Responsible for handling require-
ments, providing headquarters liaison and non-substantive project support,
performing TCO/BCO/SCO functions, coordinating requests for NPIC production
and exploitation support services, maintaining production records including
management information data, and providing editorial support for IAS
publications.
TECHNICAL BRANCH - 9 people on duty - Responsible for maintaining cognizance
of new image forming collection systems; insuring that the IAS is abreast of new
developments in exploitation techniques and equipment, and that its needs for
such exploitation equipment are met; monitoring equipment performance and
? providing first echelon maintenance for all specialized equipment; providing
necessary operator training and assistance on sophisticated exploitation
equipment; providing audio-visual and graphic support for IAS briefings and
publications.
MISSILE SYSTEMS DIVISION - 22 people on duty, including 19 working imagery
analysts**
Defensive Systems Branch - Responsible for imagery analysis and reporting
on R&D and production of all defensive missile systems and associated
electronics, and on the characteristics and deployment of strategic defensive
missile systems.
Offensive and Space Systems Branch - Responsible for imagery analysis
and reporting on R&D and production of offensive missile systems and
associated electronics, on the characteristics and deployment of strategic
offensive missile systems, and on space systems and programs.
*All figures include clerical support
**The term "working imagery analyst" includes supervisors up through
Branch Chief.

SCIENTIFIC AND INDUSTRIAL DIVISION - 22 people on duty, including 18
working imagery analysts
Nuclear Branch - Responsible for imagery analysis and reporting on all
aspects of nuclear energy programs including research and production
of fissionable materials; weapons fabrication, storage and testing; nuclear
propulsion R&D; and nuclear power.
Industrial Branch - Responsible for imagery analysis and reporting on all
basic industries with the exception of aircraft, ship and missile production.
Primary emphasis is on mining, smelting, fabrication, cement and
chemicals, including BW and CW research, production, storage, and
testing.
MILITARY DIVISION - 24 people on duty, including 20 working imagery
analysts
Ground Forces Branch - Responsible for imagery analysis and reporting
on ground force installations, units, equipment, and activities including
tactical missiles.
Air and Naval Branch - Responsible for imagery analysis and reporting
on aircraft plants, aircraft and military airfields as well as on shipyards
and shipbuilding, naval bases, and naval vessels, including associated
missile systems.
REGIONAL STUDIES DIVISION - 30 people on duty, including 26 working
imagery analysts
Area Analysis Branch - Responsible for imagery analysis and reporting
on all road and rail transportation systems. Also for supporting all
projects which are regional and geographic in nature and providing non-
operational support to clandestine services projects.
Special Projects Branch - Responsible for imagery analysis and reporting
in support of detailed planning of clandestine operations, providing and/or
arranging for imagery analysts to participate directly in such operations
as required, and preparing imagery analysis on subjects falling outside
the areas of responsibility of other IAS components.
