1. On Thursday 25 February in Room H-139 the Capitol, a
number of CIA analysts provided Congressman Stephen Solarz
(D., NY) and the Asia/Pacific Affairs Subcommittee, HFAC with a
review of the situation in Afghanistan and the prospects for a

issues to be discussed: What the mechanics of _a Soviet'
withdrawal from Afghanistan would look like .and what OUT
ability to mOnitor an agreement would be. Mr. Solarz and the
other members present also raised the issue of .the stability of
the Afghan regime, if the Soviets did in fact withdraw.
