Although ongoing Federal efforts to counteract the Jamaican posses appear to be appropriate, the scope of the problem requires our close attention. I appreciate the willingness of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms (ATF) to take on the Federal program coordination responsibility that should complement the existing cooperation occurring within the OCDETF Program. Lawn, Chairman Investigations and Intelligence Committees of the National Drug Policy Board TO: Ad Hoc Committee on, Jamaican Gangs SUBJECT: Meeting Scheduled for May 17, 1988 At the April 20 Enforcement Coordinating Group meeting, Chairman Frank Keating asked that I call a meeting of various agencies to formulate a plan of action directed at the violence and drug trafficking perpetrated by Jamaican gangs. In turn I have asked Mr. Terrence Burke and Mr. Thomas Byrne to chair a meeting on Tuesday, May 17, at 10:30 a.m., to discuss this serious national problem. The meeting will be held in the 12th floor conference room at DEA Headquarters. You are invited to send senior managers and staff to this meeting. DEA representatives will attend from both our investigative and intelligence sections since we must become informed about the scope of the problem, as well as determine appropriate courses of action. The meeting will commence with a presentation from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms which has been focusing on the violence of Jamaican gangs in the last few ecume ?t~..~._ ~., .
