MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
Morning Meeting of 17 October 1966
DD/I said that the weekly report by Task Force was
negative. He noted that Bruce Clarke will give McCloy a ten- to
fifteen-minute current intelligence briefing each morning.
Kent reported that Gene Rostow had indicated that NATO is
first on his list of responsibilities and had expressed an interest in
a briefing at Headquarters. (See Action 1)
DD/S mentioned a possible security problem in He
explained action taken to ease a local communications problem in
in connection with the Presidential trip. The Director
said that we will wait until asked to prepare a security Estimate on
South Vietnam.
Warner noted that Russ4landford was one of the five recipients
of the Rockefeller Public Service Award, and the Director said that
he would be pleased to sign a letter of congratulations.
Warner mentioned that Congressman Price had appreciated his
briefing on Friday and had asked for a return briefing on transport
aircraft. He said that he would take care of a request from Congress-
man Chamberlain for information on free world shipping to North
Vietnam with an oral, sanitized report.
DD/I said that Assistant Secretary of State Leddy had also re-
ceived the Rockefeller Award.
Parrott reported that Pat Coyne had said that PFIAB was im-
pressed with the last round of substantive briefings, particularly the
one on and that General Taylor has asked________ follow-
up on c o er outlining the Community's resources in this country.
The Director indicated that F_~would be the logical briefer.

A-DD/S&T reported that he spoke with Walt Rostow this morning
on _and that the matter is in hand. He said that, notwith-
standing press speculation on a Soviet space spectacular in connection
with a meeting of Eastern European leaders in the USSR this Thursday,
intelligence does not show that the preparations necessary for such an
event are under way. He thought that a reconnaissance satellite or a
routine space shot is more likely.
ADD/P noted a report concerning information from a
press attache on confusion DD/I noted an opposite view-
point expressed recently by the
ADD/P mentioned a news story on CIA which started in the
2 October London Sunday Telegraph
The Director noted that the Under Secretary of State is coming
to Headquarters today at 1430 and indicated that the DD/I, the ADD/P,
Kent, and Colby should be present at the briefing. He told the Execu-
tive Director that he should take care of the meeting with Charlie
Schultze at 1415 today.
Following a discussion the Director decided to invite Senator
Saltonstall to lunch at Headquarters after the Congressional elections.
The Director briefed on Saturday's NSC meeting and also on a
conversation Friday afternoon with J. Edgar Hoover.

briefing of Gene Rostow at Headquarters.
