The Langley Childrens Center Inc., an on-site day care facility on the CIA Headquarters Compound, will open on 5 September 1989. The Center will be a state-of-the-art facility incorporating the ideas of professional child care consultants and architectural design specialists. The opening culminates four years of activity beginning in May 1985 which included extensive negotiations with the National Capital Planning Commission, notification of our congressional oversite committees, and work with state and local licensing services. It was conceived, designed, and implemented by Agency employees under the auspicious of the Office of Personnel. It will be governed by a parental board of directors and operated by a professional child care management firm. The Center will accommodate 104 children from infancy to age 5 who were selected by random lottery to ensure equal opportunity for enrollment. Tuition fees will be the primary source of revenue for funding the day-to-day operation of the Center. With its opening, the Center will meet the long-standing needs of Agency employees for high-quality on-site day care.
