PS-. S ILLUSTRATED OPERATING PROCEDURES
1. Five component units of,RS-S shown in covers.
2. 1RR-5 (left) and RT-5 (right).

8. RS-6 connected to power main and ground for operation. (hile length of ground lead is not
critical, it should he kept to a minimum).
9. Adjust the voltage selector switch to the first position which produces a glow in the indicator_
10. Set the RECVR-TRANS switch on the RA-6 to TRAIT position.
11. A dull red glow will appear in the OCS TUNE FOR MAX indicator when power is present in the
transmitter.
12. Convert the kilocycle figure on the crystal for the desired frequency to megacycles.
13. Insert the crystal in the RT-5 transmitter CRYSTAL socket.
14. Adjust the oscillator and antenna hand switches to proper range setting for the appropriate
crystal frequency.
15. Adjust the Oscillator tuning control to the selected megacycle frequency.

16. Adjust the Final Amplifier tuning control to the selected megacycle frequency.
17. Set the TUNE switch to 0 position.
18. While depressing the sending key, adjust the oscillator tuning control to indicate maximum
brilliancy in the neon indicator'.
19. While depressing the sending key, adjust the Amplifier tuning control to indicate maximum
brilliancy in the neon indicator.
20. While depressing the sending key, adjust the antenna tuning control to indicate maximum
brilliancy in the antenna indicator.
21. While depressing the sending key, again adjust the Amplifier tuning control to indicate
maximum brilliancy in the neon indicator.
22. While depressing the sending key, again adjust the antenna tuning control to indicate
maximum brilliancy in the antenna indicator.
23. To insure accurate tuning on the RR-..) Receiver, it should first be calibrated. Calibration
check points are located every 0.5 megacycle along the dial, starting with 3.0 MC. Tune the
Receiver to the calibration check point closest to the desired frequency.
24. Disconnect the wire from the Receiver ANT terminal.
25. Adjust the BFO control to zero.
26. Depress the button marked PRESS TO CALIBRATE, wearing the headset. An audible tone should
be heard. If no audible tone is heard, increase the volume.
27. Adjust the volume control to the approximate midway point. Rotate the V2,HTTLIE TUTTING control
slightly in both directions until an audible one is heard.
28. If the tone has a rough or distorted pitch, reduce the volume until a clear, crisp tone is
heard. Adjust to zero beat.
29. Adjust the hairline, by means of the ADJUST CALIBRATION control. until it coincides with
the calibration point.

30. Reconnect the antenna wire to the Receiver ANT terminal.
31. Tune the Receiver to the desired frequency. At the same time, adjust the volume control to
the desired level.
32. ',Then the desired signal is heard, adjust the VERNIER TUNING control for zero beat.
33. Adjust the BFO control for the desired tone, and adjust the volume control to a satisfactory
level.
34. If it is 'b--sired to employ crystal control for a predetermined frequency of the Receiver, insert
the appropriate crystal in the CRYSTAL CONTROL socket.
35. After the crystal has been inserted, tune the Receiver control to the selected frequency, and
make any necessary adjustments with the volume control and the BFO control.
3(-,. To log a signal, set the DFO control to zero and tune the Receiver for zero beat on the
selected frequency.
1:nte the position of the white horizontal line on the clU91 scale w'th respect to the numerals
0. 1, and P.
39. -7ecord the numeral located immediately above the white horizontal line on the window over the
(1,91 scale. Pecord the two reMaining digits from the LOC SCALE.
r. For voice reception,set the EEO Control to CFF position.
O. If it is desired to operate the RR-6 Receiver without the RT-6 Transmitter. set he
REC7R-TRANS switch on the RA-6 Accessory unit to RECVR.
41. Connections for operation of the RS-6 on a 6) volt storage battery. If an 9 volt or a 12
volt battery is used, connect only three cells. Connect the black lead to the negative
terminal of the battery, and the red lead to the positive terminal.
42. Connections for operation of the RP-6 rner Supply as a battery charger. The power plug
to the RA.- Accessory unit MUST 117, DISCONNECTED
